The US Port of San Diego received the prestigious Grow Urban Sustainability Award for its groundbreaking sustainability efforts, environmental leadership, and green initiatives.The Port of San Diego was awarded the Grow Urban Sustainability Award at the Downtown San Diego Partnership’s Create the Future Awards on March 13, 2025.This prestigious recognition celebrates the port’s exemplary leadership in sustainability and environmental stewardship, highlighting its commitment to initiatives that promote sustainability and expand green spaces within downtown San Diego.
The award was presented to Port Chair Danielle Moore, the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners, and the port staff.The Create the Future Awards honor individuals, projects, and organizations that contribute to the city’s growth and development.In addition to the award, the Port of San Diego received special acknowledgment from both the City of San Diego and San Diego County for its ongoing environmental efforts.
The Port’s notable achievements include its Maritime Clean Air Strategy, with two-thirds of its initiatives implemented since 2021, significantly improving air quality in downtown and tideland areas. The port’s Blue Economy Incubator fosters sustainable aquaculture and blue technology, contributing to maritime decarbonization. Furthermore, the port leads bay-wide cleanup initiatives and ranks in the top ten percent of North American ports for the Green Marine environmental certification p.
