American Airlines has taken a big step in strengthening its long-haul fleet with the arrival of its first Airbus A321XLR with registration of N300NY, which was seen in full livery at Hamburg Finkenwerder Airport (XFW) in late March 2025. According to the filing with the US Securities and Exchange Committee, the airline plans to receive seven aircraft from the Airbus A320neo family this year.

The pace of delivery will accelerate in 2026, with a projected 28 aircraft scheduled for arrival. By 2029, American expects to have a fleet of 50 A321XLRs, a major step in enhancing its long-haul network, according to ch-aviation. By doing this, American Airlines will be able to expand its fleet of long-haul international aircraft from around 125 to about 200.
