Pete Wicks is the latest celebrity to join the Strictly Come Dancing line-up amid the the scandal his best pal Zara McDermott is embroiled in. TOWIE legend Pete, 35 and Love Island star Zara, 26, have a tight knit friendship thanks to Pete's bromance with Zara's boyfriend Sam Thompson . The pair are so close they had to laugh off affair rumours while Sam was taking part in the Im A Celebrity jungle last year.
"Me and Zara find it quite funny," he told New magazine when asked about the affair rumours. "That's the problem with social media everyone's got an opinion. Sam is my brother, and Zara is a very good friend of mine.
We just laugh about it." Pete, who has been best mates with Made in Chelsea's Sam since they met on Celebs Go Dating in 2018, then admitted that Zara is not his type and that he can't imagine a relationship between them ever working out. "I absolutely adore Zara, but she's not my cup of tea and I don't think she'd last five minutes.
" Zara once joked she doesn't ever want Pete to get a girlfriend as it would ruin their "throuple without the intimacy" set-up. Zara and Sam are really close friends with Pete, with the former TOWIE star always showing up in the couple's hilarious social media skits about their relationship. She previously revealed on a podcast: "We are a throuple without the intimacy.
That's what I think we are. Pete, honestly, like, he's got a very hard outer shell is what we say. He's got a very hard exterior, but he has the gooiest centre.
He's like a chocolate fondant." The star added: "Sam wants him to move in with us, but he says no. I would love for Pete to move in with us.
The three of us, we have a very odd relationship, but it's very amazing. He's literally my brother, my best friend. He's Sam's brother and his best friend, and me and Sam are together.
" Zara also compared their relationship to a "dysfnctional family" and joked adding another woman in would "change the dynamic" and moved the woman in with them. The star has chosen to surround herself with her family as the Strictly Come Dancing scandal rumbles on. She has ditched the UK in favour for a sunny break with her loved ones and shared a series of sweet photos from the trip on her Instagram .
However, she is thought to be "happy" for her close friend despite her controversy with Graziano Di Prima . "Zara is so happy for Pete landing the Strictly gig," a source told MailOnline. "Her experience on the show was so individual – she hopes no one will go through the same again.
She knows that Pete will have an amazing time and could even impress the judges, he's incredibly hardworking and a good person, and will thrive in the environment, which can be intense, but he performs best when he's challenged and under pressure." They concluded: "Zara doesn't want anything that happened to her to taint his Strictly journey and backs Pete even if it is a bit close to home." Earlier this month, her Strictly dance partner Graziano Di Prima was axed from the show after allegations surfaced that he had mistreated Zara during their time on the show.
