Thursday, August 29, 2024 The government of Zanzibar , a picturesque island archipelago off the coast of Tanzania, has implemented a new travel insurance requirement effective October 1, 2024. All foreign visitors, except residents, entering Zanzibar via seaport or airport must now possess valid travel insurance. Comprehensive Coverage: The mandatory insurance policy provides comprehensive coverage for emergencies, including repatriation, evacuation, and related contingencies.

This measure aims to ensure the safety and well-being of international travelers visiting the island. QR Code Verification: To streamline the process, the government will provide a QR code to prospective visitors before their journey. This code will serve as verification of the mandatory insurance requirement at the border checkpoints.

Failure to present a valid QR code may result in denied entry to Zanzibar. Safety and Well-being: The implementation of mandatory travel insurance is a proactive step taken by the Zanzibar government to mitigate potential risks and ensure the safety of international travelers. By requiring visitors to have adequate insurance coverage, the government aims to provide peace of mind for both tourists and local authorities.
