Yudhra is a fast-paced action thriller that attempts to marry intense combat sequences with a much deeper emotional core. Directed by Ravi Udyawar, known for his work in Mom, and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment, the film sets its ambitions high by catering to the action-thriller genre while infusing a youthful love story. The story revolves around Yudhra, played by Siddhant Chaturvedi, a rebel who turns to become an undercover cop, with a tragic past, and Nikhat, portrayed by Malavika Mohanan, an innocent girl drawn into a life-threatening situation.
The plot dives into the underground world of crime, narcotics and vengeance. While the premise isn’t something out of the blue, the execution of action sequences and the relationship dynamics between the lead pair and the rift between other characters make it engaging. However, Yudhra is more than just a fast-paced action flick; it also attempts to deliver an emotional depth.
The first half feels rushed, leaving viewers questioning the script and storytelling. Tthe second half redeems itself, becomes more engaging, and the character dynamics improve, making it a somewhat decent watch. When it comes to acting, Siddhant Chaturvedi brings an intensity well-suited for the action genre.
However, it’s tough to separate his character MC Sher from Gully Boy from this one. On the other hand, Malavika Mohanan delivers a heartfelt performance, although her role is somewhat limited in comparison to Siddhant’s. She adds the much-needed emotional layer to the story.
The chemistry between the two is palpable, making the romantic subplot believable despite the chaos around them. Besides the lead pair, Raghav Juyal as Shafiq is definitely going to catch your attention. Even though his character demands him to be a little over-the-top, he is memorable as the villain.
Raj Arjun as Firoz looks like a perfect fit. The actor has undergone tremendous transformation and the hard work has translated on to the screen. He is raw, he is wild and he is passionate about what he does.
Ram Kapoor and Gajraj Rao portray characters that fit predictably into a storyline that feels chaotically pieced together. The film’s standout point is its action choreography. The fight sequences are brutal, fast-paced, and visually arresting.
From hand-to-hand combat to elaborate set pieces, Yudhra is a decent visual treat for action lovers, who are not looking for a good storyline. While Yudhra delivers on action and has a few stylish and new sequences, the plot lacks depth, relying on familiar storylines. Despite the somewhat predictable narrative, the film remains an entertaining watch, especially for those who enjoy fast-paced action thrillers with a touch of romance.
