Pune: The Khadak police have arrested a 41-year-old man for stealing a bag containing Rs3 lakh from a scooter parked in Subhashnagar in Shukruwar Peth on Aug 12. Senior inspector Shashikant Chavan on Monday said, the victim, an interior designer named Nikhil Naik (27) had parked his two-wheeler in front of an architect’s office in the area, when the suspect opened the dickey with a master key, stole the bag with the cash inside and fled. Naik reported the theft on Aug 18, according to Chavan.

CCTV footage from the area revealed the thief’s identity as Vijay Shinde who is a resident of Sahakarnagar. He was taken into police custody and during questioning, he confessed to committing the crime. He said that he was a first-time offender and had stolen the bag with cash because he was debt-ridden and with no job, said Chavan.



The investigating officer is in the process of recovering the stolen amount from him, he added.
