Pune: A 30-year-old businessman, who runs an academy to train students for police recruitment exams, was shot at by a 19-year-old youth with a country-made pistol in Indapur . The incident occurred around 6.45pm on Monday.

Rahul Chavan , a resident of Indapur, sustained four bullet injuries to his back. The Pune rural police said the seriously injured victim is recuperating in a private hospital. The police later arrested assailant Abhijeet Chormale , also from Indapur, in a nakabandi operation at Walchandnagar.



Superintendent of police (Pune rural) Pankaj Deshmukh said preliminary investigations revealed that a previous enmity between Chavan and Chormale, both residents of Shirsodi village, is said to be the probable motive behind the firing. SP Deshmukh told TOI, "Chavan reached a stall to have a cup of tea near a college when the assailant, Chormale, came from behind and fired four rounds from a pistol at on the victim's back and sped away on a two-wheeler. The victim was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors treating him extracted the bullets.

Chavan has received superficial injuries, and it is hoped that he will survive the attack." A nakabandi operation was launched in the district after the firing, and a team from Walchandnagar intercepted Chormale's bike around 8.20pm on the same day, after finding his movements suspicious.

Chormale's frisking led to the recovery of the pistol, following which he was taken into custody. During questioning, the assaila.
