It turns out, many of us have been storing cheese wrong. While the majority of us know it's important to keep the produce in the fridge, some of us are unintentionally causing the freshness to deteriorate by not storing it properly. Thankfully though, a woman has taken to social media to share her tips on preventing cheese from spoiling and going to waste.

The foodie – also known as @eatlean on TikTok – had two methods for her viewers. She shared the "two hacks to help keep your cheese fresher for longer once opened." In the video, which has racked up more than 6,300 views, she demonstrates how to properly store two common types of cheese.

She gets to work with some soft cheese, which can be used as a spread or dip. These products – including brie, camembert, and ricotta – tend to spoil faster than blocks. You can make them last a little longer though – as the TIkToker advised: "Remove the tin foil film from Eatlean Spreadable and replace it with tight cling film.

Place the lid back on top to ensure it is as airtight as possible." Next, the foodie had advice on keeping block cheese fresher for a longer period of time. She recommended: "Wrap in parchment paper, secure with tape and write on the date opened.

" Finally, she advised on what to do if you'd like to put cheese in the freezer. She said: "Grate the cheese! This makes sure the texture of the cheese doesn't change during the freezing and thawing process!! Add to a zip lock bag to keep it airtight." People loved the tips, which went viral on TikTok and garnered more than 2,700 views.

So will you be giving them a go? Don't forget to let us know in the comments below. Cheese should generally be stored in the fridge. The refrigerator helps to preserve the cheese by slowing down bacterial growth and preventing spoilage.

Cheese, especially soft and fresh varieties, can degrade in taste and texture if left at room temperature for extended periods. Refrigeration helps maintain its original flavour and consistency. While some cheese is intentionally inoculated with mould, you shouldn't be aiming to achieve these results yourself.

Consuming produce that has turned can be bad for your health..
