Young people with designs on success will find out if their model homes are to the taste of visitors at today's Bolton Food and Drink Festival. Primary school children across Bolton were challenged to build model houses using recycled food and drink packaging. The creative and eco-friendly designs showcase the students' innovative approach to sustainability.
Festival-goers will have the chance to view these inspiring creations throughout the event. The competition not only encourages environmental awareness among young learners but also highlights the community's commitment to sustainable practices. Pupils aged four to 11 have been encouraged to use their imagination to create sustainable models in seven local primary schools.
Mytham Primary School , Bolton Parish CE, St Teresa's RC , Pikes Lane, Devonshire Road, Moorgate, and Haslam Park are taking part. The competition has sparked engaging discussions about sustainability in classrooms, becoming a valuable hands-on learning experience for students across these schools. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite design at the festival, created by Bolton’s youngest residents, with the winning school receiving a substantial £5,000 towards their School Improvement Plan (SIP).
The designs will be displayed at the Watson stand during the Festival. Rob Watson, director at Watson , said: “Our School Sustainability Competition, along with our presence at the festival, underscores our key values of community engagement and sustainable development. We are looking forward to showcasing the talent from local primary schools and awarding the winning school with funds towards their School Improvement Plan.
” Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Culture, Cllr Nadeem Ayub, said: “I'm delighted to welcome Watson as headline sponsor for our flagship event, representing our own core beliefs in bringing the Bolton community together. “This fantastic competition enables us to teach the next generations about the importance of developing a more sustainable environment. I would urge all festival goers to pay a visit to the Watson stand to look at some of the amazing projects and submit their votes.
” The competition and festival sponsorship highlight Watson's dedication to community engagement and social value across the region, complementing their local developments at Church Wharf and Creams Mill, which are set to play key roles in Bolton's regeneration..
