YOU THE JURY: Will this mascara deliver luscious lashes? By Rosie Green For You Magazine Published: 08:01 BST, 31 August 2024 | Updated: 08:01 BST, 31 August 2024 e-mail View comments Does. It. Work? This is what you want to know before you splash your hard-earned cash on a product.

Now I can give you my verdict: as a beauty editor I have decades of experience and have tested thousands of make-up/skin/hair potions, so can make an informed comparison. But I only have one face/body and my criteria for success might differ from yours. So we’ve decided to take a democratic approach.

For this new page, the YOU beauty team will choose a product we rate as the best of the best (starting today with this great-value mascara), then get a cross-section of differently aged women, with diverse skin types and tones, lifestyles and experiences, to see if it works for them. We’ll then ask this panel for their honest feedback. In a world of #ads and surreptitious collaborations, this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

We will constantly give them products to test, and only publish their verdicts when they’ve all found something they like. A ‘You Loves’ stamp (right) will then be bestowed! THE PRODUCT Maybelline The Colossal Curl Bounce Long-Lasting Mascara , £12.99, boots.

com THE CLAIM Separates, coats and curls lashes to create volume for up to 24 hours. Your lashes will stay lifted all day – no curler required. THE PANEL EMMA GUNAVARDHANA, 46 , beauty expert and host of podcast The Emma Guns Show; LINDSAY FRANKEL, 52 , YOU’s deputy editor SANDRA RHODES, 68 , retired teacher and vice president of Peppard Women’s Institute; DENISE FLINT, 76 , retired office manager EVE POLLARD OBE, 80 , journalist, former YOU editor and campaigner for women’s health THE RESULTS VALUE FOR MONEY ‘This is one of the best high-street mascaras, in my opinion.

If I lost my make-up bag, I’d buy it immediately’ Emma ‘£10 cheaper than my preferred Lancôme Hypnôse, but not as good’ Lindsay ‘Yes, it’s really good value for money’ Sandra ‘I think it is reasonably priced’ Denise ‘Plenty of product in it – not like some skinny mascaras that run out all the time’ Eve EASE ‘The curved brush does all the work for you – seriously’ Emma ‘The brush shape is great. It’s easy and quick – two swoops and you’re done’ Lindsay ‘The brush enabled all my lashes to be covered – even the smaller ones at the corner of the eye’ Sandra ‘The shape of the brush was good, which made the application easy’ Denise ‘Designed with flair so every centimetre of lash is coated with mascara’ Eve EFFICACY ‘Adds length, curl and oomph; separates and fans out lashes, which makes my eyes look bigger’ Emma ‘Eye-widening and lash-lengthening, but I don’t rate the staying power’ Lindsay ‘My lashes weren’t stiff or rigid but felt silky’ Sandra ‘It was long-lasting and didn’t clump’ Denise ‘The brush means every centimetre of the lash is coated, even working on minute hairs’ Eve DRAWBACKS ‘The formula can dry out a little quicker in the bottle than others, but blast the tube with a hairdryer and it will loosen up again’ Emma ‘Halfway through the morning I had to wipe smudges from below my eyes’ Lindsay ‘The smell is an “interesting” combination of vanilla and permanent marker pen’ Sandra ‘I don’t feel that it curled my lashes’ Denise ‘I can’t think of any’ Eve THE VERDICT While Lindsay was less keen (and is sticking to her Lancôme Hypnôse), the rest of the panel were emphatic with their praise. Emma said she’d give it ‘an unequivocal five stars’ and Eve said it was ‘real value for money’ and ‘certainly worked on my lashes’.
