WWE legend Sycho Sid, real name Sid Eudy, has died aged 63. His son Gunnar confirmed the news, revealing Eudy had been ‘battling cancer for several years’. He wrote on Facebook : ‘Dear friends and family, I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after battling cancer for several years.

‘He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed. ‘We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon.

Thank you for your support.’ Paying tribute, the official WWE website stated: ‘Known as “The Master and Ruler of the World”, Sid’s reputation as one of the toughest and most thrilling Superstars cemented his legacy in WWE, and his influence can still be seen in wrestling rings around the world.’ Eudy also played under ring names including Sid Justice and Sid Vicious throughout his career.

The wrestling star – who also went by the names Sid Vicious and Sid Justice – was known for facing fellow legends like Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, the Undertaker and Sting in the ring and had headlined multiple pay-per-views at the height of his career in the late 1990s. Eudy gained notoriety in 1989 when he signed with WCW, going on to wrestle the likes of Hulk Hogan, The Steiner Brothers, The Road Warriors and The Four Horseman. A two-time WWE champion, Eudy also served as Special Guest Referee at SummerSlam 1991.

In 2001, after winning the WCW World Heavyweight Title twice, Eudy suffered an injury that forced him to mostly retire from the ring after snapping his tibia and fibula. He wrestled his final match in 2017, defeating fellow sports star Paul Rosenburg. In what became one of his final interviews, Sid looked back on his life and career and described himself as the ‘hardest’ worker he had ever met.

Speaking on the Prime Time With Sean Mooney podcast, he said: ‘This is the deal. I don’t have to pat myself on the back to you or anybody. I’m the hardest worker that I’ve ever met in my life, and anybody that’s ever traveled with me like Bob Holly, Billy Gunn, or any of these guys that worked out with me or traveled the road, no one ever worked harder than me.

‘I was through with my first workout and back to my second breakfast when everybody else was just getting up, and I was going to my second workout, and that’s how I was as a kid too. I thrived to be the best, and I did everything it took to do that. ‘It’s in my genes.

My father was an overachiever. He was a pilot; he’s the one who taught me to fly. I think everyone in my family was overachievers.

That just runs in my family.’ What I Rent: I swapped London for my £1,800 a month Wiltshire home and found inner peace This London borough is the best in the capital for first-time buyers The newly-crowned 'best' commuter spot is a city I'll never go back to You can buy a house with a toilet next to the bed — but it'll cost you £360,000 You can buy a 30-acre island for less than a London three-bed Eudy is survived by his wife Sabrina Paige, and two sons, Gunnar, who is also a wrestler, and Frank, who appeared on the US version of Big Brother.
