WREXHAM won 3-0 against Wolves under 21s at The Racecourse to reach the EFL Trophy knockout stages with one group game to go. Having opened their Trophy campaign with a 2-1 victory over Salford City in September, the Reds made it two victories out of two against Wolves' young guns and have qualified for the last 32 of a competition they won in 2005 for a second year in a row. Phil Parkinson's men dominated the first half and led 2-0 at the break following Lewis Brunt's first goal for the club and Paul Mullin scoring for the second time this season, with both coming in the EFL Trophy.
With Wrexham still well on top after break, Mo Faal opened his Wrexham account in stunning fashion with an acrobatic volley as the Reds ran out convincing winners. Wrexham go to Port Vale in their final group game next month and if they finish top, the Reds will be guaranteed a home tie in the knockout stages. It was no surprise to see Parkinson ring the changes for the visit of Wolves.
He said ahead of kick-off: "This competition is an exciting one because the prize is a trip to Wembley so you never discount it. "But as a manager you have got to utilise the squad for the motivation of the group." The Reds' boss made 11 changes, naming a completely different side to the one that started Saturday's 4-1 win against Northampton Town which kept Wrexham second in League One with 20 points from the opening 10 games.
Midfielder Harry Ashfield, who impressed when he came on as substitute in the last Trop.
