Tributes have poured in for former WWE Champion Sid following his tragic death, with fans quick to share the same iconic memory of the star. The star, who wrestled under character names Sid Justice and Sycho Sid among others for much of the 1990s, was a dominant performer in the ring, but battled health issues in recent years. Announcing his death at the age of 63 on Facebook, the athlete’s son, Gunnar Eudy wrote : “I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after battling cancer for several years.

“He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon.

Thank you for your support.” A menacing heel – on screen bad guy – for much of his career, Sid broke into the industry at the end of the 1980s, switching from WCW for WWE in 1991 where, as Sid Justice, he battled alongside and against Hulk Hogan, wrestling the icon at WrestleMania VIII in 1992. He switched between WWE and WCW again later in the decade, winning the WWE title at Madison Square Garden at Survivor Series in 1996, dethroning Shawn Michaels.

He held the top gold until WrestleMania the following year when his reign was ended by The Undertaker, time on the independents then following before a return to WCW before the turn of the millennium. Sid was robbed of months of his wrestling career in 2001 when, landing awkwardly in a WCW match , the towering performer suffered a serious compound fracture in front of horrified fans in the arena and watching at home on pay-per-view television. In an interview years later , he revealed he’d expressed concern over performing the spot in question, saying: "Finally, I just said 'Hey, man, I'm not comfortable with it,' and he said 'We've already got it written in.

..” "It was something I didn't want to do and something I wasn't comfortable doing, and I probably wouldn't be comfortable doing it if I had four good arms.

" Sid would continue his career after an incredible recovery and wrestled on the independent scene before his final matches in 2017 – including one very memorable cameo with WWE in 2017 when he made a first appearance on Raw in almost 15 years by surprising – and beating – Heath Slater in a quick match. It was this memorable comeback, after such an horrific injury, that many fans pointed to on X after news of the grappler’s passing broke, one fan sharing: “I remember watching this live on tv thinking damn Sid’s moving good for his age. He still had it in him then.

” Another said: That was a legendary moment! Seeing Sycho Sid return after 15 years was pure nostalgia.” “Beautiful memory!” added a third. “And it was great to see him after the injury he had suffered.

” Summing up his star power, one fan posted: “The fact he was over [popular with the crowd] despite the fact he was never mentioned on air says it all. Rock star.” WWE Head of Creative, Paul ‘Triple H’ Leveque posted in tribute to the star: “A two-time WWE Champion.

The Master and Ruler of the World. Few performers in the history of our business have had the look, intensity and ability to connect with the audience quite like Sid. “My thoughts are with Sid's family, friends and fans.
