World Sanskrit Day, also known as Sanskrit Diwas, is celebrated every year. In India, it is celebrated on the full moon day of Sawan month, also known as Shravan. This year, we celebrate World Sanskrit Day 2024 on Monday, August 19, 2024.

The day aims to promote the maintenance and revival of the Sanskrit language. The Government of India initiated the celebration for World Sanskrit Day or Sanskrit Diwas. to mark the 2500th birth anniversary of the Sanskrit grammarian, Panini.



Panini is also known as the father of Sanskrit grammar. The day is celebrated in India on a grand scale. On World Sanskrit Day, various events, competitions, writer’s seminars, speeches, Sanskrit Kavi Sammelan and Sanskrit verse recitations are held in different parts of the country.
