Thiruvananthapuram: State Women’s Commission chairperson P Sathidevi has said that the panel would seek a report from the state govt on the allegations levelled by a Bengali actor against director and Kerala State Chalachitra Academy chairman Ranjith. “The commission would take definitive action against perpetrators if allegations are raised by women. We’re prepared to investigate such matters.

The commission hopes the govt will go ahead with a preliminary investigation into the allegations raised against Ranjith and take appropriate action,” Sathidevi said. The actor has levelled the allegations against Ranjith through the media. If she is ready to lodge a complaint with appropriate authorities, then there will be an investigation into it, Sathidevi said.



Asked whether the state govt would request Ranjith to step down from his role as Kerala Chalachitra Academy chairman, Sathidevi said: “The final decision lies with the govt. However, I believe the individual should step down in such cases if proven guilty.” Sathidevi said that once proven guilty, no one should hold on to the position, no matter how big or influential they might be.

“Women should not panic or fear to register their complaints. They should not hesitate in coming forward. Women should not be under the impression that they will have to suffer everything if they want to survive.

They also should shed the inhibitions that once their names come out, they will have to live in shame before society. All such attitudes should change,” said Sathidevi. Following the release of the Hema Committee report, Sathidevi had said that it was not possible to register cases suo motu as per the present legal provisions.
