Karen Butler, aged 37, got into the fight at a town pub on May 23, 2021, causing "bruising and bleeding" to her victim. Butler, of Rose Avenue, Preston, appeared at Bolton Crown Court on December 10 for her offence. Prosecuting, Patrick Williamson told the court how Butler had been at a pub in Bolton on May 23, 2021, when she got into a verbal altercation with another woman in the toilet.

Butler opened the toilet door, before the complainant "pulled her hair" and the defendant in turn hit her with "excessive punches and blows". The victim suffered bruising, swelling and bleeding as a result of the attack. Mr Williamson read out the victim personal statement, which said: "This incident has made me feel very frightened and scared.



My family and myself went out to celebrate. "This has made me feel anxious to go out to bars and nightclubs." Butler pleaded guilty to the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Defending, Richard Vandon said: "This was a case the crown accepted of excessive self defence. "The defendant opened the toilet door and the complainant held her hair. The defendant then hits out at the complainant and went a little bit too far.

" He highlighted her guilty plea being made in a "timely fashion" and how she had no previous convictions. Judge Nicholas Clarke KC said: "It is unfortunate there was this fight in a public place. The injuries inflected were quite serious, it seems to me compensation is appropriate.
