Pune: A woman (32) was arrested on Thursday from Katraj, along with her partner (45) from Velhe, on the charge of strangling her husband to death in the night between September 22 and 23. Senior inspector D S Patil of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police said, "Our investigations revealed that the woman wanted to get rid of her husband because of her extramarital affair with her childhood friend. The victim was a casual worker at Market Yard.
" The woman, along with relatives, took the victim to a hospital after murdering him. She told the hospital's officials that her husband had multiple health issues, including diabetes and spinal problems, and had been unwell for some time. The hospital authorities alerted the police, who initially registered an accidental death case.
The truth emerged when the post-mortem report revealed that the cause of his death was strangulation. The victim's brother filed a formal complaint with the Bharati Vidyapeeth police on Wednesday evening. A similar incident had recently occurred in Karvenagar, where a woman plotted her husband's murder with the help of her lover and tried to pass it off as a robbery case.
In the Katraj case , Patil said, "The woman called the victim's brother on September 23 and told him that her husband had collapsed at home and was unconscious. When he came, the woman told him that her husband had attempted to strangle self because the latter was frustrated with illness. They took him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
