Thiruvananthapuram : A youth allegedly murdered his mother and grievously injured his grandfather for not providing him Rs 1 lakh, at Padappakara in Kollam , on Saturday. Kundara police have intensified search for the accused, Akhil, 25, who is also a drug addict, as he is absconding. The deceased has been identified by police as Pushpalatha, 52, of Pushpa Bhavanam near St Joseph Church at Padappakara.

Her father, Antony, 75, is under treatment at medical college hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. Police suspect the accused allegedly murdered Pushpalatha by smothering her with a pillow, and Antony was beaten up using a stick during a heated exchange demanding money. Recently, Pushpalatha entered into a pact to sell a property near her house, and she had received an advance amount from the buyer.



Akhil demanded Rs 1 lakh from it for his expenses, but she did not give it. On Friday morning, Akhil had an argument on the money with his family and he vandalised the house in anger. When he proceeded to attack his mother and grandfather, Antony alerted the police.

Akhil was warned by police, and even on Friday night, there was an argument between them over it. On Saturday neighbours reached the house after not seeing Pushpalatha in the morning to buy milk. The front door of the house was open, and on further inspection they found her lying on the bed motionless.

In the next room, Antony was seen lying unconscious in a pool of blood. Both of them were rushed to medical college hospital, where Antony is being treated, however Pushpalatha was declared dead on arrival. Akhil is absconding, and police began a probe after registering a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 103 for murder and 109 (1) for attempt to murder.
