Kristina Coulson flew to Manchester Airport via Malaga to collect her new car because it was cheaper than getting the train. The mother-of-four from Cornwall couldn't believe that a one-way journey on the train to Crewe could cost up to £200 per person. After research, she discovered that flights from Newquay to Manchester via Malaga were just £54 each.
So the 43-year-old and her husband Dan Coulson, 50, decided to travel via Spain. They enjoyed a brief stay in Malaga before flying to Manchester Airport, where they booked into a hotel for the night close to the vehicle's location, then drove home the next day. It meant they spent only £153 on their travel – £108 on flights and £45 on accommodation – potentially saving nearly £250 in comparison to purchasing rail tickets for the trip, reports the Manchester Evening News .
Kristina, from Lansallos, Cornwall, said: "A bit of good came from something bad - the car accident and having to sort out a car - as it sent me in the direction of sunshine on my way to pick up a new car." She also found the flight experience better saying: "Everything was on time - it was just lovely and easy. On a flight you are guaranteed a seat - you don't have to stand up for hours on the train and it is quicker.
