Vadodara: Mahisagar police have begun an inquiry into allegations that a man accused of giving his wife triple talaq was granted bail at the police station itself. This offence is not bailable at the police station. The woman was married to the accused for about nine years.

She said she was harassed by her husband as she did not bear a child. The husband allegedly sent her the image of a handwritten letter over WhatsApp giving her triple talaq. The woman approached the Women's police station of Mahisagar district, accusing the man of assault, intimidation and harassment, as well as for giving her triple talaq which is outlawed by the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.

The woman alleged that by the triple talaq law, the husband could only get bail from a court but was granted bail at the police station itself. The woman wrote to the National Women's Commission, the state home minister, the President and others over the issue. She even "sought permission to end her life".

Deputy superintendent of police Kamlesh Vasava said that an inquiry was ordered into the matter..
