Meet the woman who spends her life in a corset to maintain her tiny waist which has been the smallest in the world for 24 years. While all body sizes shapes are beautiful, the hourglass figure remains one of the most desired and hard to achieve. It rose in popularity in the 1940s and 1950s when famous women like Marilyn Monroe started to embrace their curves.
While back then corsets were all the rage, medical professionals have since issued stern warnings they could cause harm to the body. Nowadays celebrities and influences use personal trainers and even resort to cosmetic procedures to achieve the hourglass physique. But one woman, 86-year-old Cathie Jung, won't be giving up her corsets anytime soon; she wears hers for 23 hours a day and only removes it when she washes.
The US resident has held the Guinness World Record for having the smallest waist since she was 62. Cathie was just 18 when she wore her first corset, but when she got to her 30s she decided to don one full time, stated the Guinness World Records. Cathies love for corsets grew as her passion for Victorian-style clothing did.
The majority of her formal occasion clothing is tailor-made to fit her frame, but she does wear some 'off the rack' items for casual days. "If you're going to wear a Victorian dress and have it look appropriate, you need to wear the right underwear," she said. "Once it was time to get a new [corset], it was just natural to get one a little smaller.
