Over recent years, we’ve seen subtle yet considered strides from Dyson. On the beauty front, the tech giant never ceases, with its innovative hairdryers working in tandem whether it be with styling or scalp health. It has always been about the greater good of enabling the lifestyles of its customers.

Calling to mind the year 2022, with the world on the cusp of recovering from a global pandemic, Dyson’s first wearable, the Dyson Zone made sure it wasn’t just a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, but rather, one that purifies air for the wearer. Now, with its latest invention, the Dyson OnTrac, it seems the curtain has been pulled back on the heavy from its previous wearable. Simply put, it’s a pair of noise-cancelling headphones.

There’s no extraterrestrial face shield, no ostentatious novelty but merely an earnest pair driven by industry-leading technology. The sound As part of its algorithm, eight microphones work to sample external sound. This, alongside the headphones’ material and internal geometry, 40dB of unwanted noise is filtered out.

In a commute on a train, it feels like almost 70 percent of noise and chatter is stripped away by the cocoon of the Dyson OnTrac. Add music to that and it feels like more. All of this also comes mandated by the MyDyson app, When it comes to the system grade, the bass is satisfying and deep.

This can be credited to the headphones’ frequencies, that go as low from six hertz to as high as 21,000 hertz. A closer look at the over-ear cups and you’ll see that the speaker housing is slightly tilted to aim towards the ear. Try streaming Charli XCX’s Brat and you’re sure to be for a good time—no matter where you’re at.

The fit The good news is it looks heavier than it actually is. Coming in just over 400g, it sits comfortable enough, especially when comparing it to the Zone. While the outer caps are made from high-grade aluminium, the inner cushions are of high-grade foam and micro-suede.

Wearing this for a few consecutive hours? No issues there. It’s also worth mentioning the battery life on the Dyson OnTrac extends to 55 hours. The fun Here’s where it gets interesting.

In what seems to be the tech giant’s first attempt at (finally) letting loose, comes a personalisation feature. The over-ear cups and cushions are detachable so to allow the user to switch up the colours and styles whenever they want to. Currently, there’s over 2,000 options for one to choose from—from stunning pastels to delicious neutrals.

If you were ever in the mood to match your headphones to your outfit, the OnTrac would be it. The Dyson OnTrac is slated for release in September. Sign up here to be notified.
