Winter in Japan is right around the corner, and while many Aussies will be jetting off over the next few months for the ski season, there is a much bigger world of exciting winter activities in Japan waiting to be explored. From rafting over the snowy landscape to building your very own igloo, here are some of the best and perhaps unexpected winter activities to try in winter in Japan. Snowshoeing is an excellent way to immerse yourself in some of the most remote and unspoilt areas of Japan in winter to enjoy the silence through snowy forests - and also maybe spot wildlife. Where: Hokkaido's Daisetsuzan National Park, Nagano's Hakuba Valley, and Aomori's Oirase Gorge are popular spots. The festival is one of Japan's largest and most famous winter events featuring massive snow and ice sculptures, ice art, light displays, and ice skating.
