The body of Winnie Bwire Ndubi, renowned for her role in the popular TV drama Sultana, arrived in Mombasa on Sunday, September 8, following her passing on September 5. After a courageous battle with cancer, Winnie succumbed to her illness while receiving treatment in Turkey. Grief-stricken family, friends, and fans gathered at Mombasa International Airport to mourn her loss.
The tragedy has underscored the urgent need for accessible cancer care in Kenya to prevent others from suffering a similar fate. Winnie’s father, Edmond Ndubi, addressed the media upon her arrival, offering a heartfelt tribute. “Winnie was a multi-talented individual, excelling as an actress, furniture maker, baker, and musician,” he shared.
“She was an inspiration to many young people and fought cancer with unwavering courage until her last breath.” Despite her immense pain, Winnie remained remarkably strong and positive. “We are grateful that Winnie has found peace,” her father said.
“She endured a lot of suffering, but she always put on a brave face. Her strength and resilience were truly admirable.” Reflecting on her life, he added, “God has decided it’s time for Winnie to rest.
We are thankful for the time we had with her. She was an inspiration to us as parents, and we pray for her eternal peace.” Ndubi also expressed gratitude to Winnie’s friends and supporters.
The actress had sought financial assistance through online platforms to cover her medical expenses, and her fath.
