AT Knockhilll Racing Circuit I got to feel like James Bond, David Coulthard and Colin MacRae — all before lunchtime. I was put in the very capable hands of instructor Chris Milford, 35, who got me used to the straights and turns of Knockhill’s main race circuit in a 350 BHP Alpine sports coupe. At first there was a lot to take in with steering wheel paddles to change the gears rather than gearstick.

There were traffic cones on the circuit to show when you should brake and turn into the bend ahead, while Chris would let me know where I could floor it on the straights.
