November is the month in which Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. This is one of my favorite holidays because I get to share more time with family, friends, and food! My mother, an expert baker, always bakes my favorite pies (yes, plural because everyone knows that food contains no calories or sugars on Thanksgiving Day) which brings me great joy. First, everyone knows about pumpkin pie which is a delicacy for the season.
However, I am a connoisseur of all things delicious and prefer to deviate from the norm by eating sweet potato pie. My mother’s homemade crusts and whipped topping make this treat a particularly delightful one! Gratitude is a purposeful action that should be given precedence every day of our lives. To be thankful for the people and things in your life is to be mindful that many others lack these simple facts in their lives.
Your family, food and fellowship may seem like unattainable dreams to some. As the youngest of a large family, it is my distinct honor to offer the Thanksgiving Prayer each year and remind all of my family of our blessings. My first blessing, which I am honored to possess, is the love of my parents.
Sure, our family had challenges as do all families. We lost a sister/daughter at the young age of thirty-five to cancer. Other health issues have stricken members of my family and they received excellent medical care that brought the disease to remission or full healing.
(Another reason to be grateful.) My Dad and Mom, ages 85 and 88, are hea.
