They may look the kind of outdoor accessories you find in trendy garden centres these days but these huts were part of the healthcare package on offer at Wilkinson’s Sanatorium in Bolton . Wilkinson's Sanatorium, Bolton, 1935 (Picture: Newsquest) This photo was taken in November 1935 and shows the Astley Bridge hospital which treated patients with TB. The isolation hospital opened in 1908 based in the former home of industrialist Thomas Wilkinson who left the substantial Belmont Road property in his will to be used for that purpose.

If you look carefully at the huts, you can see they are on turntables which allowed patients to turn them to face the sun..
