PUPOSKY — The Wild Rose Theater will host a Modern Dance Film Festival Aug. 22-27, featuring five films on the big screen at the theater, 24011 Highway 89 NW. Films will be screened at 7 p.

m. each day, with refreshments and discussion to follow, a release said. Tickets are available at the door and cost $5 per night or $20 for the whole series.



Cash, check and Venmo are accepted. The lineup for the film festival is: explores life with dementia and Alzheimer's disease by combining dance, music and film with Khalil Gibran’s moving poetry. Choreographed and co-directed by Tara Lee with breathtaking cinematography from Guay and Cody Collins, "The Poet" focuses on the relationship between a father, John Welker, and his daughter, Rachel Van Buskirk, as he grapples with losing his memory.

Set to the backdrop of Bach's Six Cello Suites, played by Mischa Maisky, dancers move in front of a mirror on a reflective stage playing with the elusive nature of reflection. Through years of Tai Chi training with master Shong Wei, the Cloud Gate dancers exude control and balance in their movements, giving the impression of sculptural stillness. uses dance to explore envy, greed, gluttony, anger, lust, sloth and pride.

This ambitious project, put together by Eric Gauthier, brings together seven A-list choreographers of worldwide fame. Each of them transforms a mortal sin into a short work for Gauthier Dance/Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart. The film features seven fiercely moving premieres from Aszure Barton, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Sharon Eyal, Marcos Morau, Sasha Waltz and the two Gauthier Dance/Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart artists in residence: Marco Goecke and Hofesh Shechter.

Wild Rose Theater will screen "Betroffenheit" means trauma, bewilderment and shock, a fitting title for this boundary-stretching hybrid of theater and dance, created by Crystal Pite and Jonathon Young. "The powerful performance is inspired by Young’s real-life trauma, conjuring art from the pain of losing his daughter, niece and nephew in a fire," explained the release. "Combining tap, salsa, spoken word, song and puppetry, 'Betroffenheit' is a witty, tender exploration of isolation and coming to terms with tragedy.

"Inspired by Stephen Ellcock and Mat Osman's art book about love, betrayal and identity, 'England on Fire' combines place, spirit and symbol," the release said. This activity is made possible by a grant from the Region 2 Arts Council, funded by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the state's general fund.
