ABUJA – In a bold move to transform the transportation system in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister of the FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has unveiled the construction of three modern bus and taxi terminals, marking a significant step towards improving urban mobility and enhancing public safety in Abuja. The terminals, strategically located in Mabushi, Kugbo, and the Central Business District, are set to redefine commuting in the nation’s capital.

Addressing the public during the groundbreaking ceremony, Wike emphasized the importance of integrating road infrastructure with robust transport facilities. He expressed that the new terminals are designed not only to streamline transportation but also to combat the prevalent “one-chance” crimes that have plagued the city. Wike stated, “What we are trying to do is to integrate and improve our transport system.

These bus and taxi terminals will provide a safe and secure environment where commuters can board vehicles with the assurance that their journey is monitored and tracked. This is a major step towards ending the one-chance crimes that have caused so much distress to our people.” The FCT Minister underscored the need for modern facilities that reflect the beauty and status of Abuja as a world-class city.

He lamented the stark contrast between the advanced transport systems seen in other countries and the situation in Nigeria, asserting that it was time for Abuja to enjoy similar amenities. “Abuja is a beautiful city. By the grace of God, through the support of Mr.

President, we have continued to expand the road infrastructure. However, if we expand the road infrastructure without linking it with the various bus terminals, I don’t believe we have achieved what we want to achieve,” Wike explained. The terminals are designed to offer commuters a safe space to wait for their buses or taxis, equipped with modern amenities such as restaurants and relaxation areas.

Wike drew comparisons to the facilities available at train stations overseas, where commuters can dine, relax, and even watch films while waiting for their transportation. He assured the public that the projects are fully funded and on track for completion by next year. “This is not a project that is being awarded without funds.

We have told the contractor that there is no augmentation. We are not going to rush back to the Federal Executive Council or to Mr. President to request additional funds.

The money is being provided, and the funding of this project will not be a problem.” Wike’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the execution of these projects was evident as he declared that no contracts would be awarded without guaranteed funding. “We are not going to award contracts just to satisfy people.

We must award contracts when we know the funding is there. No amount of pressure will make us go and award projects to satisfy particular individuals or groups of individuals,” he affirmed. As Abuja prepares to welcome these state-of-the-art terminals, the residents and visitors can look forward to a safer, more efficient, and comfortable transportation system that aligns with the city’s status as the heart of Nigeria.

The project is a testament to the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which Wike reiterated is not just a slogan but a reality that is unfolding before the eyes of the public. In her vote of thanks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud thanked the minister , Barr Nyesom Wike for his exceptional leadership and guidance, which have been pivotal in transforming this vital infrastructure project into a reality.” She said, “We have every confidence that their outstanding workmanship will meet our aspirations for a world-class bus terminal that will revolutionize Abuja’s transportation network.

” “I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to our valued residents and stakeholders for their unwavering support and cooperation throughout this journey. Let us celebrate this significant milestone and continue to work together towards its successful completion. May this project stand as a shining example of our city’s progress and our unwavering commitment to enhancing public services.
