A fter a bidding war spanning months between telly-streaming Goliaths, Disney+ has won out against Amazon in a deal worth £10 million. The must-watch in question? A fly-on-the-wall look at the lives of the Rooneys: Coleen and Wayne, who live with their four sons in Cheshire’s golden triangle. Which, you’d be forgiven for thinking, doesn’t sound like a £10 million proposition.
The couple, who met as children in Croxteth, Liverpool, and became famous solely through Wayne’s football career, don’t immediately read as shoe-ins to be the next Kardashians, or even the next Beckhams. Sure, the naming of their sons — Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass (who breaks the pattern, since Coleen didn’t get the daughter she was planning to give her own initials to) — has something of the Kardashians-cross-the-Mersey foreshadowing to it, but the Rooneys aren’t to be found sitting front row at fashion weeks, or starring in fashion campaigns..
