Tom Ford, the American fashion designer, has bought a house in Chelsea. For £80 million. It’s thought to be the UK’s biggest property deal of the year so far, and was rushed through to save him the £1.
6 million that buying post-budget, with an increased stamp duty levied on second homes, would have cost him. Not that it’s actually his second home; he owns property worth about £270 million, having been busily house hunting since selling his Tom Ford brand to Estée Lauder for £2.2 billion two years ago.
There’s a $42.25 million mansion in Aspen, Colorado; a Hamptons house linked to Jackie O; and a townhouse in Manhattan that used to belong to the fashion designer Halston. • Tom Ford buys £80m Chelsea mansion.
