Thanks to their “back to school” associations, loafers were once considered a winter shoe that you revisited in September, when knitwear comes out of hibernation. However, in recent years they have become a year-round classic, that look just as good with a white sundress or pair of shorts. The collections were awash with loafers, including creative director Sabato de Sarno’s debut at Gucci which had 25 platformed loafers in the line-up.

In recent years, the most sought-after loafers have erred on the flashy side, with easily noticeable logos—from Prada’s chunky black patent loafers emblazoned with the house’s triangular emblem to Gucci’s horsebit classics. However, there is one exception to this: The Row’s slimline loafers. Like everything the house does, The Row’s loafers are simple and beautifully crafted and their designs only noticeable to the trained eye.

Yet despite their anonymity, they have become a celebrity mainstay. “The offhand effortlessness offers is an art in itself,” Sarah Mower said of the brand’s pre-fall 2024 collection. This offhand effortlessness has come to define celebrity style in recent years, and has become an unofficial uniform for the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Kendall Jenner, who want to look stylish without inciting the attention of the world’s media.

The accessories are all positioned as future heirlooms, with a focus on timeless design and impeccable quality, whether that’s with a pair of platform sandals or the popular Margaux tote bag. While many celebrities, including Kylie Jenner and Zoe Kravitz, are currently wearing the for their sun-drenched plans this summer, the loafers have consistently been a best-selling item for the “stealth wealth” brand. Zoe Kravitz and Kendall Jenner are both fans of the Men’s Loafer, which has subtle ruching around the toe, traditional tassel detailing and are made from 100 per cent calfskin.

The Cary is another popular silhouette, which is The Row’s take on a classic penny loafer, with an unstructured upper and a throw-on quality, thanks to the supple leather and slip-on design. Keep reading to shop The Row loafers, which share a classic, timeless approach to design..
