According to sources , the RCMP has introduced Black Hawk helicopters to strengthen the speed and range of their surveillance capacity along austere or rugged cross-border corridors. The RCMP has described this move as a response to increased criminal activity on the border, requiring faster aerial interventions.

The authorities are working to prevent unauthorized entry, trafficking and other crimes. The RCMP collaborate with other Canadian and US agencies to leverage aviation resources in their efforts to fight crime. The newly announced plan is to lease two Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.
