This autumn, the style set are wearing knits that look curiously like your grandfather’s old jumpers. Golf, cricket and even bowling sweaters are everywhere. Billie Eilish, the singer, wore what can only be described as a woolly vest with red cricket stripes to the Screen Actors Guild awards in February.
On the front row at Milan Fashion Week last month, the supermodel Bella Hadid paired a burgundy, navy and grey Argyle pullover, fit for a round of golf, with leather trousers and a trench coat. Meanwhile, on the catwalks the French luxury fashion house Lacoste revamped its archival chunky cable-knit cricket whites with neon yellow, navy and fluorescent pink chevrons. Miu Miu’s collection featured mustard yellow and black polo shirts, and Burberry’s offering was centred.
