The owner of a bakery is responding after Whoopi Goldberg speculated that she might have been denied service due to her political beliefs. On Wednesday (November 13), the 69-year-old cohost of The View celebrated her birthday on the show with treats on the show. However, she revealed that her order for the desserts were initially denied weeks earlier.

because I’m a woman, but perhaps they did not like my politics.” Fans tracked down the bakery, identifying it as Holtermann’s Bakery. In a statement shared with EW, owner Jill Holtermann denied that she turned down the order due to politics.

There was a different reason: “They’d asked us and we were having trouble with our boilers,” she said, explaining that she “didn’t want to make a commitment that I can’t carry through.” Jill reiterated that the decision had nothing to do with politics. “I said to Whoopi , ‘I can’t do it right now,” she explained.
