Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan last week ordered the suspension of IPS officer Sujith Das , following the leak of a controversial conversation between Das and Left MLA P V Anvar . Das, who was serving as Superintendent of Police in Pathanamthitta district, had his alleged conversation with Anvar surface in the media, painting a negative picture of the state police and raising concerns about internal issues within the force. In response to the leaked audio, which had been widely telecast, Das was removed from his post earlier in the week.

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) issued a one-line statement confirming Das's suspension, citing findings from an internal investigation led by DIG Ajeetha Begum. Her report highlighted serious lapses in Das's conduct, prompting the Chief Minister to take swift action. The suspension comes amid mounting criticism from MLA P V Anvar, who has repeatedly accused Das of illegal activities during his previous tenure as Superintendent of Police in Malappuram district.

Anvar has alleged that police squads in Malappuram including Das were involved in covering up evidence linked to gold smuggling and illegal tree-felling, accusations that intensified following his meeting with the chief Minister earlier in the week. Das, along with Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M R Ajith Kumar, is now under investigation by a team led by State Police Chief Sheikh Darvesh Sahib. Who is now suspended IPS officer Sujith Das? Das is the former Mala.
