Chris McCausland has made history as the first ever blind contestant on Strictly Come Dancing . Despite being a well-known comedian , little is known about his personal life, as the 47-year-old constantly invents anecdotes and jokes about his wife and family during his stand-up gigs, so fans are unaware of his life away from the stage. But Chris, who is partnered with Australian pro Dianne Buswell on the BBC show, once made a rare appearance with his wife on a TV show that ended in an explosive argument.

Chris and wife Patricia, who works as a psychologist, chatted about their marriage on David Mitchell's Outsiders, but soon got into an awkward disagreement when quizzed about their relationship by comedian Alan Davies. “On a scale of 1 to 10 how happy are you in your relationship?” he asked, prompting Patricia to confidently reply: “I'll go for a good, solid nine and a half. And that's not to say I don't feel like it's a ten.

I just feel there's always room for improvement, because we've got that winning mentality and that's why we're here.” But she was furious to discover her husband looking shocked at her score, as he jokingly quipped: “You'd go nine and a half?” When she repeated her score again, Chris shrugged and said: “Yeah nine and a half.” Patricia thanked him for agreeing, but Chris continued to wind his wife up, as he asked her again: “Nine and a half?” Fuming, she snapped: “All right.

I know, okay, what you want then? Go on, you tell him then. Go on, we're here to be honest, you tell him.” Fellow comedian Alan then asked Chris what his “real number” was, but the blind funnyman insisted his score was the same as his wife’s: “Nine and a half.

” Patricia looked furious, and Alan struggled to contain his laughter as he asked the couple: “Do you fight often?” Not wanting to get into trouble for a second time, Chris meekly said to his wife: “Can you go first?” However, Patricia didn’t find her husband’s remark funny, and she stormed off the TV set shouting: “All right. You know what. There you go.

Yeah, see you later.” Despite the embarrassing TV blip, Chris and Patricia have a happy marriage away from the spotlight, and he spoke to Disability Horizons about how he and his wife first met. “My wife used to work in TV and we met very early on in my career when she was involved in making a programme about the Edinburgh Festival,” he recalled.

“We’ve been together for 16 years now and got married in 2012 after I’d proposed during a Pearl Jam concert at Hyde Park – rock and roll!” The couple live in London, and share a daughter named Sophie.
