Governor Tim Walz is speaking at the 2024 Democratic National Convention tonight, and we’re taking a moment to highlight his lovely children: Hope and Gus ! They were both in attendance at night one of the DNC, and it’s possible they’ll be back for night three tonight as well! . Back in February, the Governor spoke out about him and his wife’s fertility struggles before welcoming their two kids. He said , “ Gwen and I have two beautiful children because of reproductive health care like IVF.
This issue is deeply personal to our family and so many others.” They underwent years of fertility treatments before welcoming their daughter in 2001. The Governor revealed that his 23-year-old daughter is a social worker, she works at a shelter for the unhoused, and she’s also a ski instructor! She graduated last year from Montana State University – Bozeman with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and she also minored in Women’s Gender and Sexuality studies.
He’s also documented their love of the outdoors on his official Instagram. They’ve gone on hikes together, went fly-fishing , and more. Gus is still in high school and his dad celebrated last year when he became a licensed driver! “My son Gus just passed his (what do you call it? A drivers license exam?).
Proud dad moment,” he posted on Instagram . Governor Walz previously revealed that Gus has a non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD, and an anxiety disorder. “When our youngest Gus was growing up, it became increasingly clear that he was different from his classmates,” the Walz family told People .
“When he was becoming a teenager, we learned that Gus has a non-verbal learning disorder in addition to an anxiety disorder and ADHD, conditions that millions of Americans also have.” “Like so many American families, it took us time to figure out how to make sure we did everything we could to make sure Gus would be set up for success as he was growing up,” the couple added. “It took time, but what became so immediately clear to us was that Gus ’ condition is not a setback — it’s his secret power.
