Phillip Schofield is back on your telly tonight (Monday) after more than 480 days away from screens. Quite the change for someone who was the cornerstone of ITV's light entertainment programming. But since the former, This Morning and Dancing On Ice host confessed to an "unwise but not illegal affair" with a younger colleague on the morning programme, he's kept a low profile.

Until now. Cast Away, on Channel 5, promises "complete isolation, no comforts, no safety net". Schofield has been sent to a remote island and will spend the three-part series learning to live in the unforgiving wilderness.

But Schofield spent the time - on a remote spot off the coast of Madagascar - with his own battles, following his career breakdown. He films his own experiences and, the synopsis explains, "has to confront the challenges of total isolation, the forces of nature, and the battle within their own mind".

The three episodes will air over the next three days - Monday, September 30, Tuesday, October 1 and Wednesday, October 2, reports the Mirror . Each episode commences at 9pm and lasts an hour. Schofield, now 62, hasn't been seen on television since May 2023.
