7.30pm/8pm/8.30pm, BBC Two The return of TV’s three brainiest quizzes, a triple-bill that kicks off with Clive Myrie and four new contenders seated in the iconic black chair (their specialist subjects are Dad’s Army , Liverpool FC under Jürgen Klopp, the life and works of Jane Austen, and Shania Twain ).

In Only Connect , Victoria Coren Mitchell tests lateral thinking, with the Al Frescans taking on the Midlanders as they try to work out what comes next in the sequence of “sumo, tuwe, thfr”. And finally, it’s over to Amol Rajan and University Challenge as students from Queen’s University Belfast take on a quartet from the University of Liverpool. 7pm, BBC Two A new series in which ornithologist Iolo Williams explores the valleys north of Swansea.



At an old colliery site near Ystradgynlais, he finds a kingfisher has built its nest in coal waste. Meanwhile, deep in a conifer plantation in the Neath Valley, Williams searches for Wales’s rarest breeding bird – the honey buzzard. 9pm, ITV1 Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell present the stories of two women searching for siblings.

Tracey Boyle had children of her own before she learned of her brother’s existence when her mother confided in her that her first-born son was taken from her at the age of 16. Liz Allward was adopted as a baby but always suspected she had a biological sister. 9pm, BBC Two Documentary telling the epic 50-year story of an Indian tiger clan and its five most powerful tigresses, who have revealed more about the lives of tigers than anyone thought possible.

Their home is Ranthambore in the north-western Indian state of Rajasthan, which is dominated by a huge, ancient fort. Almost equally extraordinary is the personal story of documentary maker Valmik Thapar, who has dedicated his life to capturing remarkable footage of these big cats. 9pm, Channel 4 Lucky London residents have a pioneering, capital-wide network of hospitals, air ambulances and paramedics that has improved survival rates for major trauma patients by 50 per cent.

This is the second series shadowing the London Major Trauma System, and requiring their urgent assistance tonight are a former paratrooper involved in a paragliding accident and a pedestrian run over by a bus. 9pm, BBC Four Long before Would I Lie To You? there was this true-or-false panel show. And while attempts to revive it have intermittently been made over the years (with mixed results), this edition from 1974 features the vintage line-up of host Robert Robinson and team captains Frank Muir and Patrick Campbell.

Joanna Lumley and Miles Kington guest. 10pm, BBC Two Michelle de Swarte’s Marmite “comedy” concludes with Jo’s relationship hitting the rocks and, when Mia arrives to pick up the pieces, their romantic tension comes to a head. Back at Chrissy’s, the increasingly controlling David is making himself at home just as Mia’s debts in America are catching up with her.
