8pm, Channel 4 The tent is pitched once again in the grounds of that Berkshire country house as 12 new amateur bakers are introduced to the world. Last year’s dozen were a particularly engaging bunch and the same looks true of these newbies as an unseasonal summer chill sets in and almost negates the need for fridges. And, as they knock up a loaf cake, eight mini Battenbergs and a hyper-realistic illusion cake, Paul Hollywood awards his first handshake of the series and Prue Leith declares an effort to be “one of the most interesting cakes I’ve ever eaten”.

However, one baker has to make an early exit. Softening the blow are hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding. 7.



30pm, BBC Two In her ongoing quest to make us “love our leftovers”, Nadiya Hussain cooks a beef stir-fry, which she repurposes later in the week with seaweed, wasabi and cucumber into a sushi-style wrap. She also whips up a stale bread granola, where she bakes old bread with oats, nuts, syrup and cinnamon to fill up a huge jar that can last for weeks. 8pm, ITV1 It’s Lingerie Week in this contest for amateur clothes designers – the prize being a job as a junior fashion designer for M&S (as with the similarly branded culinary challenge series Cooking With the Stars , the store being more than well-compensated with bags of free publicity).

Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley joins the panel as a guest judge this time around, while AJ Odudu and Vernon Kay share the hosting duties. 8pm, Channel 5 It’s all hands to the decks in God’s Own County as a cat with a thorn in his eye causes panic at Peter’s practice, Julian operates on a ram at his old friend Rodney’s farm, David rushes to see a horse that has suffered wounds to three of its legs and Rohin visits a farm where some newborn goat kids are struggling to get milk from their mum. 9.

30pm, Channel 4 A new series in which the former British Army captain and explorer invites dads and their children into his wilderness adventure school, helping struggling modern families by stripping them of the distractions of the 21st century and putting them through tough outdoor experiences. He begins by challenging the fathers to navigate their way through the jungle to find their children. 10pm, BBC Two Colin the border terrier is usually peripheral to this winning Australian romcom named after him but, in this penultimate episode, he takes centre stage as Gordon (Patrick Brammall) redirects his grief into making Colin a TV star.

He faces stiff opposition from a cat owner, however, whose sob stories attract much sympathy. 10.45pm, ITV1 Sam Holder is in France ahead of the first anniversary of the 7 October Hamas attack on Israel, where he learns that 38 per cent of French Jews are contemplating leaving for Israel in the wake of recent election results.
