Do you have a colleague who’s quick to tell you that Mercury retrograde is to blame when your computer breaks down, or you accidentally send an email to the wrong person? Astrologers claim the phenomenon, which occurs three to four times a year, has the potential to make our lives a little more chaotic than usual. This year, the first period of Mercury retrograde begins on 15 March and continues until 7 April. “What makes this celestial moonwalk different from the others is that the planet of communication is moving between Aries and Pisces,” explains Vogue astrologer Lisa Stardust .

“Aries is a fire sign that focuses on the self and is full of boldness, and Pisces is a water sign that is sensitive and spiritual, so we’ll want to rethink our relationship with ourselves [during this period].” Those who like to plan ahead (Capricorns) should also note down the dates for Mercury retrograde’s second and third occurrences in 2025. From 18 July to 11 August, we’re due to experience Mercury retrograde in Leo – brace yourself for communication failures and travel disasters – while from 9 November to 29 November, Mercury will be in retrograde first under Sagittarius, then under Scorpio, leaving emotions high all around.

To help you navigate the impact of Mercury retrograde, Mayia Alleaume, a holistic wellbeing expert and the founder of Sentara Holistic , shares her guide to things to avoid during Mercury retrograde, as well as what to prioritise in order to take ad.
