Virgin Atlantic, a long-haul operator from the United Kingdom, has launched a new rewards initiative called Virgin Red. The new program works with Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, the airline’s frequent flier program, to give members an opportunity to earn extra points. The new initiative is similar to United Airlines’ MileagePlus X program or American Airlines’ Simply Miles.

According to Virgin, members have more than 150 ways to earn points and more than 200 ways to spend them. One of the most important features of the program is that points never expire. Members of the Red program are not required to have a Flying Club membership, but it is encouraged to link the two together.

Once accounts are linked, Virgin makes it easy to see all points in one place, facilitating the management of those points. Once earned, points can be used for small things or even Upper Class upgrades, and several other options. How does Virgin Red work?
