The Icon A5 is an amphibious light sport aircraft (LSA) made in the United States . The first prototype flew on July 9, 2008, but the first flight of the production aircraft was not until July 7, 2014. It was first introduced at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh in 2008 at a cost of $139,000, and by the next event in 2009, Icon had received over 400 orders.

In 2024, the Icon A5 base price is $409,000 with options to add the Garmin G3X primary flight display and autopilot. So far just over 200 have been built and the aircraft is still in production, albeit it very slowly due to legal and financial issues since 2016. The first customer delivery took place in 2016.



What is the Icon A5? The Icon A5 is a high-winged flying boat amphibious aircraft with a carbon fiber airframe and retractable undercarriage. It seats two people, was built for recreational purposes, and is commonly put in the same category as motorcycles, speedboats, and snowmobiles rather than being categorized as an aircraft. Interestingly, 35% of A5 customers are not pilots, and there is interest outside the aviat.
