FARGO — Our wet summer will trigger those who have allergies in the fall. Dr. Dan Dalan, an allergy doctor with Essentia Health, said the warm weather and moisture we've had is creating mold, which can lead to a longer and more intense allergy season.

Some symptoms you may experience include prolonged sneezing, coughing, chest tightness or a runny nose. If you're outside, he suggested wearing long sleeve clothing, hats and masks. And wash everything when you're back indoors.

He said prolonged exposure to allergens increases your chances of developing chronic respiratory issues or asthma. "If their symptoms are more bothersome for them, and it's significantly affecting their quality of their life, then we do nasal steroids, allergy shots, biological agents besides allergy shots," Dalan said. To prevent severe allergy symptoms, Dalan advises those with allergies to take their medication nightly.
