Wednesday, August 28, 2024 Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) has forged a landmark partnership with Singapore Airlines, a Skytrax-certified 5-Star Airline, marking a significant step forward in the development of Australia’s first greenfield airport in over fifty years. This collaboration comes as discussions continue to shape the future operations of the airline at the state-of-the-art facility. At the heart of this groundbreaking agreement, WSI CEO Simon Hickey emphasized the strategic benefits that airlines like Singapore Airlines will gain from the airport’s unique scheduling flexibility.

“This partnership with Singapore Airlines is a major milestone for Western Sydney International Airport, and it highlights the incredible opportunities our 24-hour operations present,” Hickey remarked. He noted that the airport’s late-night departure capabilities are particularly advantageous, allowing Singapore Airlines’ business travelers to complete a full day’s work in Sydney before boarding an overnight flight that lands in Singapore in time for morning meetings. “Passengers will also benefit from smoother transits through Singapore’s world-renowned Changi Airport, connecting to over 125 destinations served by the Singapore Airlines Group,” Hickey added.

Western Sydney International Airport is focused on delivering a seamless and modern travel experience, underpinned by cutting-edge technology. Hickey pointed out that the integrated international and domestic terminal will offer Singapore Airlines passengers a streamlined transfer experience, complemented by a state-of-the-art baggage system and efficient design that minimizes taxi times to just five minutes. “This means passengers can quickly get on board and start enjoying the award-winning service that Singapore Airlines is known for, ” he said.

Situated in the culturally diverse region of Western Sydney, which boasts a population with over 150 different ancestries, this new partnership will also open up new travel opportunities for local residents, many of whom frequently journey abroad to visit family and friends. “With the airport now over 80 percent complete, including the recent installation of our terminal roof, today’s agreement further solidifies the vision for WSI. Our communities can now start to imagine their experience flying out of this world-class facility when it opens in late 2026,” Hickey shared.

Singapore Airlines Regional Vice President for South West Pacific, Louis Arul, echoed the excitement, stating, “This agreement reflects our commitment to enhancing network connectivity to and from Sydney, and to expanding our services in Australia, a key market for the Singapore Airlines Group. Collaborating with a greenfield airport offers us a unique opportunity to redefine the customer experience across the entire airport ecosystem.” Arul also highlighted that this partnership follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2023, which set the stage for exploring WSI’s future functionality, customer experience, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
