Wednesday, January 8, 2025 Western Railway (WR) is set to introduce co-working Digital Lounges at key railway stations in Mumbai, offering office-goers a convenient space to work while they wait for their trains. These air-conditioned facilities will include mini cubicles, shared tables, comfortable seating, and charging points for laptops and mobile devices, drawing inspiration from the design of European railway stations. Under the Station Improvement Project, elevated decks are being constructed at 17 stations by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation at a cost of INR 947 crore.

WR plans to repurpose these elevated decks by setting up Digital Lounges and relocating food stalls, restrooms, and other amenities to ease congestion on platforms. Stations with significant office commuter traffic and close proximity to business districts—such as Andheri, Goregaon, Borivali, Bandra Terminus, and Mumbai Central—are being prioritized for this initiative. These lounges aim to enhance the passenger experience while complementing the existing Executive Lounges.

Inspired by the European approach to commuter-friendly facilities, WR envisions creating a work-conducive environment for local travelers. This initiative marks a significant step toward modernizing Mumbai’s railway infrastructure and elevating convenience for daily commuters..
