Nine people have caught the virus in four towns within Seville province, according to the Andalusian Government. Officials there revealed two of the West Nile virus cases were reported from Los Palacios and Villafranca, three cases from Dos Hermanas, and two each from Coria del Rio and La Puebla del Rio.

Authorities confirmed that six out of the nine affected by the virus have been discharged from hospital . It's been found that mosquitoes in the area are carrying the virus, hence British tourists heading to the region are advised to take precautions. Though most individuals do not show symptoms after contracting the West Nile Virus, it poses higher risks for the elderly , reports the Express .



Recovery from West Nile can take up to several months, with some sufferers seeing permanent effects. According to the Center of Disease Controls (CDC), one per cent of people who develop severe illness affecting the central nervous system die. Local media reports say that 2,000 individuals demonstrated in a Seville town on Monday, August 5, calling for action to prevent further virus transmission.

One protest group spokesperson spoke to CanalSur radio asserting immediate local government intervention is crucial. During the demonstration, protesters were reportedly seen holding banners proclaiming "No more death! No more fear! " and "Solutions! Platform against the West Nile Virus". UK health authorities have indicated that while most West Nile Virus infections are mild, about one percent progress to severe neuro invasive diseases.
