The former Nowhereman brewery and taphouse in West Leederville will reopen on August 16 as Otherside of Nowhere under new owners Otherside Brewing Co. The two craft breweries announced their merger in November last year. Since then, the venue has been refurbished with fresh external painting and signage, a new and expanded menu, internal layout changes, a live music program and the addition of Otherside beers.

Described as “Perth’s original urban brewery”, Nowhereman Brewing Co. opened in a former furniture factory on Harrogate Street in 2017. Otherside Brewing Co.

started brewing the following year at their Myaree facility before opening Fremantle live music venue Freo.Social in 2019. Otherside Brewing general manager Braden Loader said the refreshed venue is “as much an authentic Otherside experience as it is a nod to the institution Nowhereman built in West Leederville”.

“We worked every step of the way with the Nowhereman crew,” Loader said, adding that several “easter eggs” celebrating the original brewery are sprinkled throughout the new-look venue. Otherside recently released Rhapsody XPA, which was one of Nowhereman’s most popular beers. James Legge, managing director of Otherside parent company Triple 1 Three, said the brewer is “thrilled” to unveil the West Leederville brewpub.

“It’s especially exciting to have a central location for our Otherside fans and Tycoon (loyalty program) members to call their own,” he said. “While our initial priority was to rebrand and refresh the venue, we’re looking forward to engaging the wider network of residents and businesses in the area and welcoming them down for a drink, to try the new food menu and check out the changes we have made so far.” The new menu features share plates, such as chicken wings, popcorn cauliflower, tacos and felafel koftas, as well as pizzas, burgers, gnocchi puttanesca and a steak sandwich using seared Dandaragan beef.

There will be four kids’ meals, plus three dessert options. Otherside beers will pour alongside Nowhereman brews, with core range and limited releases from both breweries. There’s also a short wine list, plus a dozen cocktails as well as non-alcoholic options.

Triple 1 Three plans to build a dedicated children’s area and an alfresco space, plus a retail and takeaway outlet. Otherside of Nowhere will continue to operate from Wednesday to Sunday, with a regular Thursday pub quiz, Friday night vinyl DJs, and beer and food pairings among activities the new management hope entices customers to visit.
