Labour Health Secretary Wes Streeting appeared on Sky News to dicuss the government's first budget which will be announced later this week. During his Tuesday appearance on the programme, presenter Kay Burley questioned him over Labour MP Mike Amesbury, who was recently suspended after allegedly attacking a constituent over a row about cuts to winter fuel allowance. The incident is said to have taken place just hours after he attended a local meeting with police and councillors about improving community safety.
Streeting descibed the politican as a "hardworking, affable, decent parliamentarian, stands up for his constituents." However, he was interrupted by Kay who brutally interjected: "He also knocks them down sometimes." The topic was opened up after Streeting shared his opinion on assisted dying, to which he admitted: “I honestly don’t know,” when Kay asked, “What was going on?” with his colleague.
She added: “Apparently it was an argument over road works.” The politician continued: “Well, I’ve obviously seen the footage like everyone else, I haven’t seen the wider context, the police investigating. “I think it’s right that the Labour Party have suspended Mike Amesbury while the investigation takes place and crucially that we give the police the space to do their work and decide what action, if any needs to be taken.
” Kay probed: “A leader went further and said it was shocking, what did you think when you saw it?” Streeting responded: “I am.
